Dr. Philip Yanos

Philip T. Yanos, Ph.D. is a professor of psychology at John Jay College and the Graduate Center, City University of New York.  A clinical psychologist by training, he currently serves as Director of Clinical Training for the Ph.D. program in clinical psychology at John Jay College/the CUNY Graduate Center.  Philip has dedicated his career to conducting research addressing stigma toward people diagnosed with serious mental illnesses and is the author of over 140 peer-reviewed papers as well as the books “Written Off: Mental Health Stigma and the Loss of Human Potential” and “Exiles in New York City: Warehousing the Marginalized on Ward’s Island.”  He also serves as associate editor for the American Psychological Association-published journal Stigma and Health.  Philip serves as a board member for the peer-run organization City Voices  and the transformative mental health training organization the Institute for the Development of the Human Arts.
