Elizabeth Stormont

Elizabeth established A Different Mind after reaching a stable place in her own journey with mental illness. After years of struggling with debilitating obsessive-compulsive disorder and depression and the needless yet unwavering stigma that comes with it, she sets out to change the way society views mental illness. She understands that mental illness is more than enough to balance without the excess burdens of misunderstanding, rejection, discrimination, and ignorance; she hopes future generations won’t have to bear these burdens like she had to.

Elizabeth holds a degree from The New School, where she graduated with honors and a double major in Management, Leadership, and Entrepreneurship and Creative Writing. She has previously held several positions in the arts, including participating in Lincoln Center’s prestigious, rotational internship program, where she worked in Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts’ government relations department and in Lincoln Center Theater's marketing department. Before that, she worked in the marketing team of local music venues with The Kingsland Presents/ The Brooklyn Monarch and with the management team of the silkpunk band P.H.0.

In her free time, Elizabeth has volunteered with the New York City Chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI-NYC) as an advocacy ambassador for over 5 years. Ambassador duties have included sharing her story at a City Hall press conference alongside major political players, NYC Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, NYC Council Member Tiffany Cabán, and then NYC Council Member, now NY State Senator Erik Bottcher.  

 

When she’s not stigma-busting, Elizabeth can be found making a feast in the kitchen, curling up with her dogs, or at one of New York City’s many theaters/ concert venues.
